DAVID MOYES has called on Everton’s supporters to ensure tonight’s UEFA Cup tie against Nurnberg passes off peacefully.
Besides the 2,700 travelling fans who have taken up the official allocation for the away end, thousands of ticketless Everton followers will make the journey to Germany.
Security concerns had persuaded UEFA to classify the match as “high-risk” earlier this week after it emerged Nurnberg had sold around 1,500 tickets direct to Everton fans.
Although the tickets have since been cancelled, many of the supporters are nonetheless expected to travel having already spent hundreds of pounds on flights and hotel rooms.
And with the black market leaving open the possibility of Everton fans sitting alongside Nurnberg supporters in the home section of the 47,000-capacity EasyCredit-Stadion, Moyes is hopeful there will be.
“I heard someone on the radio saying what had happened to the fans and I was so disappointed to hear the news,” said Moyes. “They thought they had tickets and were then told they couldn’t use them. Obviously we are only just back in Europe and we don’t want any-thing to sort of affect that in any way. We want to be here for years to come and don’t want to put that in jeopardy. It is important it all goes peacefully.”
