The attacking midfielder reports his team-mates’ self-confidence has been restored following the victory against Bolton on Boxing Day.
Everton went into that Barclays Premier League match on the back of losing to Manchester United on Sunday – their first defeat in 14 attempts in all competitions.
But goals from Phil Neville and Cahill made sure there was no lingering hangover from that setback at Old Trafford.
Now they cannot wait to get to grips with title contenders Arsenal on Saturday.
Cahill said: “I really believe we have a great chance of achieving something. It is all about how we apply ourselves.
“We probably will not see a lot of the ball.
“But if we get a chance, we have got to try and take it.
“Arsenal will be coming here knowing they are facing a massive game.
“These are the matches the boys look forward to.
“We were buzzing at Manchester United and we will be buzzing again when we play one of the elite teams in the world.”
Everton are within touching distance of Champions League qualification, but Cahill is refusing to get carried away.
“We are flying and are just happy to be in this position,” said the Australian, whose goal tally for the season now stands at eight. “I think consistency is the key to where we stand. There are a lot of players in good form. We are taking things a game at a time – but for the club, everything is going really well.
“This is the time of year when you can make or break your season. This is where you see how things will pan out. We need to try and get maximum points if we possibly can and push ourselves up the table.”
