Everton's Tim Cahill ruled out Australia squad after foot injury

Everton’s Tim Cahill has been left out of the Australia squad for Wednesday’s crucial World Cup qualifier with China after suffering a recurrence of a foot injury in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.

The 28-year-old lasted just nine minutes on his Toffees return at Goodison Park and is now a major doubt for the Barclays Premier League derby with Liverpool next Sunday.

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, West Ham defender Lucas Neill, Celtic’s Scott McDonald and Liverpool’s Harry Kewell are all in line to start for Pim Verbeek’s side in the Asian qualifying Group One fixture.

Sheffield United’s David Carney and Leicester City’s Patrick Kisnorbo were also named in the 21-man squad for the fixture which is to be played at altitude in Kunming.
