Cahill: I’ll be raring to go this summer

INJURY-JINXED Tim Cahill is confident he will be raring to go for pre-season training this summer.

The Everton midfielder has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after suffering a recurrence of his metatarsal injury against West Ham United last month.

It’s the third time in little more than 12 months that Cahill has sustained a broken foot, restricting him to 28 appearances since March 2007.

Cahill, who has already started his rehabilitation, insists he will be ready to join his team-mates when they return from their summer break in July.

“I started my rehab programme the day after I broke it,” said Cahill. “One thing I am is experienced in this game and I know exactly where I am with my foot injury.

“When it comes to pre-season it will be like I haven’t been out of football.”

Meanwhile, Victor Anichebe is hopeful of being available for the weekend visit of Derby County after resuming training yesterday.

The young striker missed the derby defeat at Liverpool last Sunday after picking up a virus that left him hospitalised.

Anichebe has begun working on his fitness at Finch Farm while the rest of David Moyes’s first-team have been on a short warm-weather training break in Spain.

And the striker said to evertonTV: “I came back from the Nigeria game last week on a high and looking forward to the derby. But I could feel myself getting a little ill – I just thought it was nothing. Then during the day I came back I kept getting bad pains in my stomach.

“I tried to sleep it off but I couldn’t really eat because it was so bad. So then I had to go into the hospital and I was in there all night on a drip.

“It was a bad experience and I never want to go to hospital again. I didn’t eat for four days and I wasn’t well enough to join the squad in Spain.

“Hopefully I can get my strength back in time for the weekend.”
