MARK LAWRENSON: Results count now for Everton

DAVID MOYES is a great admirer of Sir Alex Ferguson.

And the philosophy of ‘it’s only the result that counts at this stage of the season’ is one the Everton manager is currently enjoying sharing with his fellow Scot.

Ferguson just needed the win at Middlesbrough on Sunday.

But not only did his team not perform, they didn’t get the win either.

Later in the day it was Everton’s turn to put in an unconvincing display against Derby.

But they got the win.

So neither side played well.

But in terms of points gained it was Moyes 3 Ferguson 1.

In that context, not a bad weekend’s work for Everton after all.
