CONFIDENT David Moyes is convinced Everton “will win a trophy soon” as they prepare for tomorrow’s Wembley showdown with Manchester United.
The Goodison outfit take on their North West rivals in their first FA Cup semi-final since lifting the trophy in 1995.
It’s the second successive season Moyes has led his team to the last four of a knockout competition, having been eliminated by Chelsea at the penultimate hurdle of last season’s Carling Cup.
Everton have not claimed any major silverware since Paul Rideout’s winner against United in the FA Cup final 14 years ago.
But Moyes reckons it’s only a matter of time before that lengthy drought is ended and honours return to Goodison.
“As a football man, Everton will win a trophy soon,” said the Scot. “That is for sure. The players at Everton will win a trophy soon, and I’m looking forward to that happening. The group we’ve built together is growing all of the time, and as the team is growing the performances are growing.
“I hope it is this time, but if it is not it is going to be soon. We want to win a cup.
“Last season we got to the semi-final of the League Cup, had a good run in the UEFA Cup, so we are getting better as a cup side. The pedigree is getting better.
“Albeit, this season once we got knocked out of the League Cup and the Uefa Cup we were looking like a bad cup side again, but the FA Cup has helped us this year and we have had a decent run against some big opposition to get where we are.”
Moyes added: “I’m enjoying going to a semi-final. I’d enjoy it better if it was the final. I don’t think it is an awful lot to do with the managers, it is about the players. They have to go on and get on with it.”
