SYLVAIN DISTIN admits Everton cannot afford to feel sorry themselves as they prepare for the next hurdle of their testing February schedule.
Distin has revealed David Moyes’s side are still coming to terms with their failure to capitalise on a golden chance to end their long wait for derby victory at Anfield on Saturday.
Despite enjoying an extra-man advantage for almost an hour, Everton slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool that ended their nine-game Premier League unbeaten run.
Moyes’s men host leaders Chelsea tomorrow, before ending the month with further difficult fixtures against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as both legs of their Europa League tie against Sporting Lisbon.
And Distin accepts Everton have no time to further dwell on their derby disappointment.
“There was no reaction after the derby really,” said the French defender.
“Everyone just sat down and listened to the gaffer for five or 10 minutes.
“Everyone just stood still for a while, feeling sorry for ourselves I suppose.
“But there are a lot of games in England and you don’t really have too much time to feel sorry for yourself, you have to refocus on the next game.
“Chelsea is going to be another big game and it’s a big month so we have to turn the page and learn from our mistakes and carry on.”
Everton are still waiting on the results of a scan on the shin injury suffered by Marouane Fellaini on Saturday as a result of the challenge that saw the dismissal Liverpool centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos.
