EVERTON fought off tough competition from Manchester United, Arsenal and Celtic to sign the talented England Under-19 goalkeeper in May 2005.

Ruddy was signed from Cambridge United for an initial fee of £250,000 which will rise depending on future appearances.

His first team debut came against Blackburn, following Iain Turner's eighth-minute sending off for handling the ball outside the box.

Despite his inexperience, Ruddy kept a clean sheet in a game which marked the debut of two Everton keepers.

He has since spent time on loan at Walsall, Stockport County, Bristol City, Rushden and Diamonds, and Chester City to gain valuable first team experience.

David Moyes rates Ruddy as a possible future England number one.
