Everyman Bar and Bistro, Hope Street, Liverpool _320
YOU don’t have to be planning an evening at the theatre to enjoy a drink or even a bite to eat at the Everyman Bar and Bistro.
Tucked away under the famous theatre of the same name, people have been enjoying fine food and drink here for some 35 years.
And when you do drop by it is easy to see why they keep coming back.
While it is a natural magnet for those planning some thespian action, open, as it is, from midday until 11pm Monday to Wednesday, and until 2am at weekends, it is a great stop-off for a jar or two or a bite to eat while on the Hope Street tourist trail.
On the drinks side, the bar at the bistro comes CAMRA- recommended and hosts a great selection of beers, including a number of real ales alongside a good range of bottled beers and a healthy list of wines at very reasonable prices.
On the food front, the bistro prides itself on all dishes being prepared from scratch, using only the freshest local ingredients, and rather than table service food is collected canteen-style at the counter.
The menu changes twice daily and they claim it is never the same twice. The sweet-toothed out there will be pleased to hear that the bistro is particularly famous for its puddings and, if you are on a restricted diet, there are also plenty of gluten-free dishes on offer.
