Stamps, Crosby Village _320
"REAL Ale, Real Food and Real Music" is the philosophy of the philatelists at Stamps.
Situated in Crosby Village, this former Post Office prides itself on its music. Literally every musical taste is catered for, and the finalists of the Publican Music Pub of the Year have a knack of always booking brilliant bands. This could well be because backing tracks are strictly forbidden, ensuring that performances are 100% live.
However, it’s not just about the music. There is a vast selection of real ales, with a staggering number of pumps lining the bar. Local beers are their speciality, but there are many from farther afield, including plenty of Continental lagers. And, with a multitude of wines and spirits on show, Stamps caters for all.
The same is also true of the food. Ingredients are fresh and, where possible, locally sourced, and the menu boasts a bit of everything, with a strong emphasis on Spanish and North African cuisine. Special mention must also be made of the monthly Seafood and Fish night, and the curry nights every Monday.
The eclectic mix of artwork on the walls is always a talking point, and adds to the atmosphere, complementing the dusky downstairs or the bright and airy upstairs. Quite simply, Stamps has everything – even a quiz on Wednesdays and a cinema night once a month. Make sure to get there early, though, with closing time 11pm Sunday to Monday, and midnight Friday and Saturday.
