Recipe: Hedgehog Mash and Chipolatas

Hedgehog Mash and Chipolatas

MAKING animal shapes out of food somehow makes it taste so much better. Here is an old favourite, bangers and mash with a twist.

HEDGEHOG MASH AND CHIPOLATAS

Ingredients

4 peeled potatoes

A heaped teaspoon of butter

2 tablespoons of milk

10 chipolata sausages

Method

1. Cut potatoes into quarters, put in a pan of water, bring to the boil and cook for about 8 minutes.

2. Test to see if they are cooked by prodding them gently with a fork.

3. Ask a parent to drain the hot water then add butter and milk before mashing with a plastic potato masher. You may need help to get it really smooth.

4. Meanwhile put the sausages under a medium grill for about 8 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.

5. Turn the mash out onto a plate and shape it into a mound. Smooth it off with the back of a spoon.

6. Stick the chipolatas halfway into the mound of mash, spreading them out all over so that they look like hedgehog spikes and enjoy.
