Slow food making an impact at festival

A SLOW food specialist is making a special visit to Liverpool as part of the city’s Food and Drink Festival.

Peter Gott from Cumbria will be helping to celebrate the launch of the first Slow Food Liverpool group.

He will be speaking at a special Slow Food dinner as part of the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival. An Italian meal, using North West produce, has been designed by chef patron Paul Askew and will be held at The London Carriage Works today, as part of the themed evenings being held in venues across the city.

The first Slow Food Convivium for Liverpool is run by a group of volunteers andKate Curtis, vice chairman, said: “Celebrating local food is becoming more important in Liverpool.

“The Slow Food Movement has been getting tremendous support in Liverpool. .”

They approached Peter Gott, of Sillfield Farm, who set up the Cumbria Slow Food group and is a driving force behind promoting local produce.

He said: “We have become too intensive and must turn the clock back, by allowing animals to develop more slowly and not cramming all sorts of additives into our meat.

“Hence The Slow Food Movement.”
