Food festival serves up a little taste of Italy

Paulo Cillo and Vince Margiotta with one of Il Forno's special dishes

AWARD-WINNING Italian restaurant Il Forno presented a variety of one-off special dishes last night as part of the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival’s Taste of Italy day yesterday.

Treats included Osso Buco alla Milanese, cooked up by house chef Paulo Cillo. The dish is known to have become a favourite of former Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho since he arrived at Inter Millan in the summer.

Mr Cillo, from Potenza, in southern Italy, said: “It’s a twist on our signature dish in the style favoured by ‘the special one’. I’m a big fan of his and Internazionale.”

Managing partner of Il Forno, Vince Margiotta, said: “I’m looking forward to the rest of the week. Sunday’s launch, at which we sold 600 pizzas, has brought so many people through the door.

“Everybody is still on a high and the euphoria created by the festival has been fantastic for us and many restaurants taking part.”

Today, restaurants across Liverpool will be serving up Gallic cuisine to mark Vive la France day. The festival, which started on Sunday with a spectacular festival in Sefton Park, will reach a crescendo with this Sunday’s Hope St Feast.
