Celebrity gives Liverpool students masterclass in cooking
CELEBRITY Masterchef winner Liz McClarnon gave students at a Liverpool college a cooking class yesterday.
The ex-Atomic Kitten star demonstrated a selection of easy recipes from different cuts of meat including spicy pork shoulder curry, slow cooked pork belly and roast loin of pork with stuffing.
The singer is touring Britain with the organisation Love Pork to promote British farmed cuts and dropped in on students at Liverpool Community College on Duke Street.
The food went down well with the audience in a packed teaching kitchen, and all onlookers said they would be trying the cooking tips at home.
Ms McClarnon said: “Before I won Celebrity Masterchef, I hardly ever chose pork at the supermarket.
“But once you learn how to cook it properly it is great.
“I am so pleased that so many people came to Liverpool to learn how to wow family and friends with some delicious and easy to prepare recipes.”
She also discouraged people from buying cheaper imported pork from the Continent, where she said there was a lower standard of animal welfare.
The cause of saving British pork farmers has been championed by Jamie Oliver, in his latest Channel Four TV show as part of the Great British Food Fight season.
Ms McClarnon said: “In Britain our pigs are reared to a very high standard and I would not personally eat anything below that.”
The 27-year-old singer won Celebrity Masterchef last year.
