Tony’s new beat

RETIRED police officer Tony Taylor is the 2007 captain at Upton-by-Chester.

Mr Taylor, who was in the building trade before joining the police, played badminton for Northop and was introduced to golf by a colleague in Cheshire police. Most of his career was with CID.

He joined the Cheshire Headquarters and Ellesmere Port Police Golf Society in the mid-1970s, when it held its meetings at Upton, and he joined the golf club in 1991. He served on the club’s entertainment committee for several years.

The police society now plays at a variety of courses and he still meets friends, police officers and golfers from many years ago, at society golf days.

His chosen charity is the Hospice of the Good Shepherd at Backford. He was a volunteer driver for the hospice for 10 years.
