Coaches to get coaching in drive to give players the ingredients for success

A MAJOR new project to raise the standard of golf coaching has been launched by The English Golf Union.

The World Class Coach Education initiative is aimed at coaches at both regional and national level. EGU Director of Coaching Peter Mattsson believes good quality coaches are every bit as important as the players they are teaching.

“The role of the coach is, and will be, crucial in trying to develop world class players,” he says. “If we want world class players we also need world class coaches with an understanding that goes way outside the technical aspects of the golf swing.”

Former Heswall professional and European Tour player Paul Affleck will put his concept of “Instinctive Golf” before the coaches as part of the programme.

EGU Elite Squad Coach David Ridley added: “This is a perfect opportunity for coaches to keep ahead of the game.”
