Grewal on top in Alliance

HESWALL’S Sandeep Grewal handed in a card with six birdies for a 66 and 40 points to win the Liverpool Alliance at Ashton-in-Makerfield, finishing one point ahead of Nick Sargent from Eastham Lodge.

Sargent’s round included an eagle at the par-4, 297 yards, 18th where he drove to the front of the green and holed a putt of 50 feet.

The pro-am brought him some consolation when, with Eastham colleague Jack Wilkes, he shared first place with the Ashton-in-Makerfield pairing of Liam Kenealy and Dave Bibby.

Both partnerships finished with 43 points, one ahead of Grewal and his amateur colleague from Heswall Oliver Green.

Pat Vesey from Eastham and Ian Orme of Upton-by-Chester won the am-am with 42 points. Five pairs shared second place.
