THERE was a dramatic conclusion to the Liverpool Alliance Championship when the deciding round was fought out over the links at Wallasey Golf Club.
Sandeep Grewal had set the pace at the first venue, Bromborough, with a 70 and returned a level par 72, with two birdies and two bogeys, at Wallasey to set the pace at 142 for an event which is played out over two weeks with two rounds at two different venues.
However his Heswall clubmate Chris Sands, who had started the day four shots behind, came through the field with a superb 68, which included six birdies and just two dropped shots, to finish level at the top on 142.
Sands played the back nine in 33, three under par, and now both players’ names will appear on the trophy in a competition that dates back to 1909.
Mike Jones (Upton-by-Chester) was third on 146 after rounds of 76,70.
In the amateurs’ section Peter Nicholson from Vicars Cross took the honours with roudns of 75,72 for 147.
