Alliance pipped at the national

THE Liverpool Alliance maintained its good record in the National Alliance Championship when they took part in this year’s event in Derbyshire.

The host county, holders of the John Dowd Trophy, chose to stage the event at Morley Hayes, a golf and hotel complex.

The format is five pro/am pairs in each team with the best four scores to count.

Although the Nottinghamshire Alliance came out on top with 174 points the two Liverpool teams were close behind.

Liverpool Two finished runners-up with 171 points and Liverpool One third on 169.

Liverpool professionals were to the fore in the individual competition, although again they had to give top billing to one of their competitors, with John Whatley scoring 42 points over his home course.

Heswall’s Tom Atkinson took second with 40 points with his clubmates, Sandeep Grewal and Chris Sands, joining Jason O’Brien of Widnes in a share of third on 39.
