Laura off the mark in States

CHESHIRE’S Laura Jones has scored her first win on the US women’s college circuit – just two months after joining Oklahoma City University.

The 18-year-old from Royal Liverpool shot four-under par for the 36-hole Oklahoma Intercollegiate for Women at the Territory Golf Club.

She returned 70,66 for a career-best performance and led a whitewash by the Oklahoma Stars, who filled the first three places on the leaderboard. They also scored their fourth team win out of four starts this season.

Laura has come through the lottery-funded training programme of the English Ladies’ Golf Association. She’s a past member of an ELGA birdie squad and of the regional Select North squad. Her latest success ends her 2007 season as it began – with a win. Laura, a two-handicapper, also took the honours at The Leveret at Formby Ladies.
