Caldy double up in new Cheshire junior finals day

Caldy, winners of the Cheshire Club Junior Team Championship

CALDY’S success in the finals of the Cheshire Junior Club Championship was their second in as many years.

After winning the inaugural event at Birchwood last year, they lifted the Bob Meston Salver with the best three gross scores from four players over their own course.

Caldy topped the gross leaderboard thanks to Josh Sims (69), Dominic Barnes (80), Steve Peacock (73) and Tom Dean (77) for a total of 219.

Birchwood (Dan Creaney, Sean Stirton, Ross Hunt and Chris Chilton) were second with 228 followed by Eastham Lodge (Billy Ellis, Lewis Fearon, Thomas Reilly and Jack Wilkes) on 231.

In the nett competition Poulton Park took the honours with 203 thanks to Peter Hall (82-7-75), Luke Ince (82-11-71), Chris Mape (90-17-73) and Anthony Brown (81-22-59)

Next year’s finals will be held at Didsbury GC on October 5.

The competition is open to the winners of junior leagues where the majority of member clubs fall within the Cheshire county boundary. The county boasts a strong junior league structure and it is hoped clubs will sign up for one of the existing leagues or band together to form new ones.

Leagues already up and running include Mid-Cheshire, West Cheshire & Borders, Wirral, Brunswick, East Cheshire & Borders, Mersey Valley and Cheshire & Derbyshire.
