A NEW professional from Cheshire has given himself a shot at winning a place on the lucrative Asian Golf Tour.
Dale Marmion, who only turned professional in August, has won a place at the final of the qualifying school after a superb performance at stage one.
The former Cheshire county regular and member of the England A squad shot a final round five under par 67 to top the leaderboard.
Marmion had the lowest four-day total of 11-under-par 277 at the Sutera Harbour and Sabah Golf Club.
At final qualifying there will be 40 cards for the 2008 season up for grabs, with the final field expected to approach 200 players.
The 22-year-old had to finish in the top 11 to be sure of making progress – and did so in style. He had rounds of 71,71,68,67 to finish ahead of a host of local players.
The Final Stage, which will also be played in Kota Kinabalu, will be held from December 12-15.
Marmion is attached to Eaton Golf Club, near Chester, where he first played as a 13-year-old.
There was disappointment for Heswall’s Sandeep Grewal, who finished in a tie for 35th after rounds of 75,75,75,74 left him on 299.
