Mersey pair on verge of winning Euro Tour card for 2008

MERSEYSIDE pair Lee Slattery and Paul Waring are on the brink of winning a place on the 2008 European Tour.

After five of six rounds at the Tour School final at San Roque in Spain, the duo occupy one of the 30 qualifying places for the new season. Slattery lost his card at the end of the 2007 campaign by less than £50 and just one place on the Order of Merit, but has bounced back in convincing style.

He added a fifth round 70 to his total to maintain his standing in fourth place on 351, nine under par. Waring, meanwhile, who only turned professional in August, continued his steady climb up the leaderboard and is now in a share of 11th place. The Bromborough golfer is on six under after one of the rounds of the day, a superb four under par 68 which mixed five birdies and one bogey.
