MOST golf clubs have seen a decline in visitors’ green fee income this summer due to the poor weather.
Many are now hoping to combat this fall by attracting more golfers during the winter.
West Derby is relaxing the compulsory use of plastic mats, which have protected the fairways over the last few winters, and hopes this will encourage more visitors to offset the effects of the poor weather in the summer.
Secretary/manager Paul Milne believes the change is welcome news for societies who seek the benefits of winter golf packages and enjoy playing their golf off ‘real’ grass.
ŠThis year’s winter golf packages are available from November 1 until March 31 at the Liverpool club and consist of a full English breakfast on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by a two-course meal – all for the bargain price of £25 per person (minimum eight people,ŠMonday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).
Milne reports that bookings have already increased from previous winters, but there are still vacancies available.
