Guest sails in

HELEN GUEST  a member of Huyton and Prescot since 1992, is the club’s new lady captain.

Ms Guest, who used to be a keen badminton player at local leisure centres, was encouraged into playing golf – “with all its pleasures and frustrations” – by her father, also a member at Huyton and Prescot. She went to local driving ranges before joining the golf club.

At her first social event, the lady captain’s cabaret and supper, funds were raised for her charities, the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. Funds are likely to be raised for other charities during her year. Ms Guest works for Liverpool John Moores University, at the Lairdside Maritime Centre at Birkenhead, which provides education and training for the maritime industry. On her year in office, she says: “We are hoping to attract more lady members.”
