WHEN the time comes for young Robbie Durnan to be congratulated on his golf success he might be able to point out that he remembered a tip or two from one of the greatest stars of modern times – Nick Faldo.
Robbie, aged 10, who lives at Bowring Park in Liverpool, won the Under-12 Faldo Mini Series competition at his club, Blundells Hill.
Then, lucky in the draw among club winners from around the country, he went to Celtic Manor for the day to meet the former world number one.
Robbie’s dad John says: “The children went to a driving range and then saw a golfer doing some trick shots.
“Then there was a question and answer session with Faldo and he gave the youngsters a few tips.”
Robbie has other sporting talents. Three years ago he was with the Liverpool FC junior academy and he still plays football on Saturdays and Sundays, for Chelwood Rangers, based at Childwall.
But golf is his big interest now. He joined Blundells Hill when he was eight and has won five competitions
He came home from Celtic Manor with a photograph of his meeting with Faldo, a goodie bag containing golf balls and, of course, some very special memories.
But John, also a member at Blundells Hill, said: “I think I was probably more thrilled than Robbie!”
