Richard Bean makes consistency count for title

RICHARD Bean was a model of consistency as he powered to a four-shot victory in PGA North Region overseas pro-am on the Portuguese Algarve.

The former MEN Manchester Open winner from Pryors Hayes led on three of the fours days at Vilamoura as he posted a five-under-par total.

He signed off with a flawless 70, made up of two birdies and 16 pars, to put him out of sight of the chasing pack, headed by Welshmen Matthew Davies and Matthew J Ellis who tied second.

Bean slipped two shots off the pace after Davenport professional Tony Stevens carded a best-of-the-week 67 on the second day.

He reversed the deficit in the third round when Haigh Hall’s Craig Corrigan, who won the event five times in the previous six years, moved into contention with a 68.

But Bean was quick out of the blocks in the last round, birdies at the fourth and fifth distancing him from the rest of the field.
