THE number of schools offering golf as a sporting option for their pupils has more than doubled in the past four years.
The latest Government survey of sport in schools has revealed a successful trend behind the Golf Foundation’s drive to bring more children into the game of golf.
The sporting charity has worked hard to forge links between schools and golf clubs. Over the past four years the number of schools offering golf has increased from just over 3,000 to almost 6,800. The percentage of schools offering golf has risen from 14% to 31%. And the percentage of schools with formal links to golf clubs has doubled, increasing from 9% in 2003-4 to 18% in 2006-7.
Mike Round, Golf Foundation chief executive, said: “The figures are encouraging but it’s our task to make further progress.”
