Chain of office links double honour for Woolton golfers

TWO OF Woolton Golf Club’s members are the holders of prestigious posts which are linked by the occasional wearing of historic chains of office!

The first to take office was The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Paul Clark, followed by Andrew Holroyd, this year’s President of The Law Society of England and Wales.

Woolton captain Michael Furlong says that to have one such appointment in a year would be an honour for the club, but to have two is very special.

Councillor Clark is at least the third member in Woolton’s 106-year history to be Lord Mayor. The first, L S Cohen, was the founder of Lewis’s department store and the second, A Rushton, was First Citizen in 1923.

Now well into its second century, the Liverpool club is looking forward to its next 100 years and is offering the chance to sample the parkland course.

The club has devised ‘The Woolton Experience’, which they hope will appeal as a suitable gift for any occasion.

The package includes four rounds of golf, two half- hour lessons with the PGA professional and a variety of other benefits.

The cost is £99 and full details can be obtained from the General Manager Michael Martin on 0151 486 2298.

Meanwhile the club, for a limited period, has waived the joining fee.
