Skills test date at Aintree

THE Aintree Golf Centre is inviting youngsters to take part in the National Skills Challenge next month.

The event involves the five disciplines of putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play and the full swing and is organised in two sections, the Rookie Challenge for the under-12s and the Tour Challenge for juniors aged 12-17.

The children will be marked according to their performances with the leaders going forward to the next stage. Registration costs £2 and in advance of the competition on April 19 and 20, Aintree is providing coaching with professional Scot Duffy. The coaching costs £8 for each of two sessions.

The National Skills tournament is the latest advance in Aintree’s encouragement to young golfers and follows the Tri Golf events last year. About 60-70 youngsters took part and about 30 have continued to play at the centre.
