Golf: Jane Rogers chases title hat-trick

FORMBY Ladies’ Jane Rogers, winner of the Lancashire Ladies’ Veterans Championship in 2005 and again last year, will be challenging for her third win when the three-day 2008 championship opens at West Lancashire next Wednesday (May 7).

The former champions taking part include Formby Ladies captain Val Moran, winner in 1996 and 2000, Penny Thompson from West Lancashire, winner in 2003, Jennifer Adams of Pleasington (2004) and four-times winner Iris Brattan from Preston.

The Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association was founded in London in 1921 and the Lancashire branch in 1931 by Mrs A Whitehead from Formby Ladies and Mrs T.H. Miller from Royal Lytham.

This year’s Captain is Gill Solomon of West Lancs.

Also among the entrants this year is Phyllis Grundy of Widnes

The qualifying round will be a strokeplay competition and the top 16 players going forward to the matchplay knockout stage on Thursday and Friday.
