Nick Dougherty’s agony over mum’s heart attack death

LIVERPOOL golf star Nick Dougherty was devastated today after his mother died suddenly of a heart attack.

Ennis Dougherty, described as the European golfer’s inspiration, died at the age of 61.

The 25-year-old from Bootle was playing in the Verizon Heritage tournament at Hilton Head when he was told his mother had collapsed in Florida nine days ago.

In an emotional tribute to his mother Dougherty said: "I spoke to my mum every day and was extremely close to her.

"She has been the very best mother and a huge influence on my career and life and I will miss her unbearably."
