Golf: Flawless performance nets back-to-back victories

IT TOOK 66 shots at Pennant Park for Barry Taylor to gain his second Tamsel Tour success.

The Houghwood player produced a flawless four-under-par performance at the North Wales venue, a new destination for the Chester-based Tour.

Hallmark of Taylor’s performance was his impressive swing tempo as he played to the card for an outward 35 before chalking up four birdies for an inward 31. Taylor did not drop a shot throughout his round and finished three shots clear of his rivals to gain back-to-back victories following his success at Leasowe four weeks earlier.

James Whatley from Morley Hayes and Bridgnorth’s David James tied for second on 69 with Richard Henaughan (The Chase) in fourth on 70.

Four players shared fifth on 71 – Mike Taylor (Bliss Supplies), Craig Simmons (Patshull Park), Stuart Hemmings (Penn) and David Wilcock (Dean Wood). Adam Delves (Gem Retail Ltd) took the leading amateur medal with a commendable 72.

Taylor’s win moved him to the top of the Tour’s Order of Merit ahead of Dale Marmion (Eaton), Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath), Paul Wesselingh (Kedleston Park) and Wilcock.

Next up is a two-day event at Helsby on May 19-20.
