Golf: Ethan Davies to take on kids from America

ETHAN DAVIES, aged nine, is now practising every day for his biggest challenge – the United States Kids European Open at Gullane, East Lothian at the end of the month.

He will face competition from the best youngsters in America and elsewhere. But Ethan is one of the bright golf prospects in the region.

He was accepted for the US Kids tournament based on his past record and particularly his success last year in the nationwide Young Masters golf competition, where he finished fourth in his age group.

Ethan, from Rainhill, has been playing golf almost from the time he could walk, given plastic clubs and golf balls and encouraged by his granddad Richie, a member at Mersey Valley.

Ethan’s dad Neil says: “He got obsessed and now, getting ready for the US Kids Open, he is practising almost every night after school.”

Ethan is a member at Eccleston Park. Playing off the white tees, his handicap is now 24.
