Golf: Michael Bedford motors to final victory

PRESTBURY’S Michael Bedford scored a convincing win the final of the Cheshire Matchplay Championship held at at Bramall Park.

He raced past Alex Hogben (Ringway) 6&4.

Best of the local hopefuls were three players who reached the last eight – Bromborough’s Rob Hearty, beaten 5&4 by Ian Davie (Hazel Grove); Oliver Carr (Heswall), who lost 3&2 to the eventual champion and Leasowe’s David Hird, pipped by one hole by Kevin Kean (Ashton on Mersey).
