Golf: Family fortunes for Cawleys

THE Cawley family of Woolton have been celebrating a rapid collection of golfing honours.

Dad John, a lathe operator in the transmission plant at Halewood, set the pattern when he won the Getrag-Ford Golf Society Stableford meeting at Boysnope, Manchester, with 39 points.

The following weekend sonŠJonathan, aged 20, won the medal at Woolton with a nettŠ66. The next day his brother Daniel, aged 17, won the Second Spring meeting at Woolton with a nett 64 and followed that the next day with a medal win with another nett 64. John has a handicap of 15.

The boys, both members at Woolton, play off eight.

Jonathan is in the Colts section and a member of Woolton’s matchplay team.Š

Daniel, club junior captain, is studying for his A Levels, which he hopes to follow by going to university.

John says: “I think four wins in one family in about two weeks must be a rare occurrence, especially so early in the season.

“The difficult thing now is to keep it going throughout the rest of the year!”
