Golf: Mark Ramsdale scores second Tamsel win at same venue

MARK RAMSDALE took a break from his Europro Tour schedule to score his second victory on the Tamsel Tour.

The Formby player underlined his liking for the Withington course at Manchester by adding to his maiden win over the same course in 2005.

The 28-year-old returned a winning score of five-under-par 66. A three-under-par 32 for his outward half followed by a two-under-par 34 over the final nine kept him one stroke clear of Kedleston Park’s Paul Wesselingh, whose dropped shot on the final hole denied him a play-off.

Philip Barlow (Helsby), David Shacklady (Mossock Hall) and Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath) tied for third spot with 68s. Harry Proos (Dunscar) took clear sixth on 69 with Mike Taylor (Bliss Supplies), James Pye (Preston) and Darren Cain (Prostate UK/Mere) sharing seventh on 70.

Jay McGarvey (Whitefield) won the leading amateur medal with a round of 73.

Barry Taylor (Houghwood) holds on to his lead in the Chester-based Tour’s Order of Merit from David Wilcock (Dean Wood) with Wesselingh moving into third ahead of Hanson, and Steve Parry (Bolton).

The next event at Delamere Forest on Tuesday, June 24, is open to non-members of the tour, including qualifying amateurs.

RESULTS: 1st, 66 Mark Ramsdale (Formby); 2nd, 67 Paul Wesselingh (Kedleston Park); 3rd, 68 Philip Barlow (Helsby), David Shacklady (Mossock Hall), Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath); 6th, 69 Harry Proos (Dunscar); 7th, 70 Mike Taylor (Bliss Supplies), James Pye (Preston), Darren Cain (Prostate UK/Mere); 10th, 71 Karl Whitehead (Eng), Luke Berry (Royal Birkdale), Nicky Harris (Whitefield), Joe Ferguson Kidderminster), Richard Gurney (Kings Norton), Steve Knighton (Erewash Valley)
