England’s Fleetwood prepares for US golf challenge

LANCASHIRE’S Tommy Fleetwood is among eight members of the England squad who will get their first sample of international action for 2009 when they line up in the biennial Jones Cup invitational in the United States this week.

A field of 80, including the top amateurs from the United States, Scotland and Wales, will compete over 54 holes of stroke play at Ocean Forest Golf Club, Sea Island Georgia, starting on Friday.

Fleetwood, aged 18, from Formby Hall became a boy cap in 2007 and last year was Boy Captain while making his full debut for England in the Home Internationals held North of the Border.

Also in 2008 he finished runner-up in the Amateur Championship, and won the Lancashire Championship and the English County Champions Tournament, both in play-offs.
