Delamere Forest’s Dye loses her crown to Quinn

SUE DYE of Delamere Forest put in a determined defence of her title in the English Seniors Championship at the classic Hunstanton Links before going out to Hampshire’s Chris Quinn, who went on to claim the championship for the third time.

Dye defeated Pat West from Spalding 6&5 in the first matchplay round but she went out to Quinn, from Hockley, in the quarter-finals in a battle that was finally settled at the 21st hole.

Barbara Laird from Sandiway was also a victim of Quinn, losing 4&3.

ROYAL LIVERPOOL’S England boys international Tom Boys and his under-18 squad colleague Scott Campbell of Hallowes will represent the English Golf Union in the Thunderbird International at the Grawhawk Club in Arizona.

Boys, 17, made his England debut in the Boys Home Internationals last year and won four of his six matches.

LAURA JONES of Royal Liverpool has been among the English students claiming yet more wins on the US College circuit.

Rounds of 72 and a three-under-par 69 gave her a four-shot win in the Sooner Athletic Conference at Lincoln Park, Oklahoma.

Her team from Oklahoma City University won by 59 shots and qualified for the national championship finals.

FORMBY HALL’S England international Tommy Fleetwood scored three points from a possible four to help complete England’s 12th win in 13 internationals against Spain going back to 1985 in the biennial match at La Reserva, Sotogrande.

After going into the second and final day 7-5 England won 13.5 – 10.5.6.
