Business awards find the silver linings on the clouds of recession

EXCITEMENT is building ahead of next week’s Liverpool Daily Post Regional Business Awards final.

As a nation, we are in the thick of an economic downturn, but none of the businesses featured in the Daily Post’s shortlist show signs of recession or lost sales. Indeed most of them are continuing to grow as if there was no slowdown.

Since its launch in 1992, the Liverpool Daily Post Regional Business Awards have recognised the work of companies and business leaders in the Daily Post circulation area of Merseyside, West Lancashire and North West Cheshire.

Liverpool Daily Post editor Mark Thomas said: “The achievements of the business community in Capital of Culture year were rightly celebrated at our popular event last year.

“These are challenging times, but there are still many impressive firms that are continuing to thrive.

“The Daily Post has, in recent times, reported some stunning success stories and these were reflected in a high-quality field of entrants for our annual celebration of enterprise and endeavour.”

Last year, the Duke of Westminster was honoured for his property company’s role in regenerating the city with the Liverpool One retail development and Princes Foods was hailed as best big company.

While the region has continued to grow in stature, it has been against a backdrop of worsening economic conditions. This makes this year’s awards more important than usual – because it is the successful businesses which are not just safeguarding jobs but which will be the drivers of the recovery.

The nine award winners will be announced at the glittering black-tie awards dinner next Wednesday, June 24, within the stunning setting of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall.

They were selected by a judging panel after much debate, which included the Liverpool Daily Post’s head of business Bill Gleeson, Philip Rooney, DLA Piper’s office managing partner in Liverpool, Ian Goalen, senior office partner at KPMG Liverpool and Professor Tom Cannon, head of strategic development at the University of Liverpool Management School.

The panel wanted to see entrepreneurial flair and business growth by companies that have weathered the storm – and they weren’t disappointed.

YOU can still join us at this year’s awards dinner.

Tickets are priced £95+VAT. Telephone 0151 472 2570 to book your place.
