6am: I wake up early and head straight to the David Lloyd gym in Speke, where I do a very quick work-out followed by a very long chill-out in the sauna.
When the heat of the sauna becomes unbearable, I leave the gym and head to our office in Salford. I’m always glad of my morning chill-out as the journey into work usually involves a tedious crawl into work in several miles of slow-moving traffic.
The car essentially becomes my second office and I spend most of the journey on the phone – on hands free, of course.
8.30am: I arrive at the office, grab a coffee and spend half an hour catching up on my e-mails before heading out for a pre-start meeting on a job in Tameside, where we are going to carry out refurbishment work on a school.
Our project team carries out various refurbishment tasks in schools throughout the North West. In this school, we are modernising the toilet blocks, cloakrooms, reception area and refurbishing the playground.
10am: I have a site visit on another project we are working on in Moston, and have a meeting with the health and safety advisors there to make sure that the work is being carried out to the highest standard.
Our project team is regenerating the front of 46 properties to improve the overall quality of the existing housing. This project is a great one to work on as the improvements will benefit the local community.
11am: I head back to our office for a meeting with the facilities management team. The team provides building and property maintenance service to clients across the public and private sector.
Today we are looking at the current success of the division and at options of how we are going to grow the business.
We are managing projects on a number of new apartment blocks in Manchester and Liverpool, and would like more projects like this to work on in the future.
1pm: After a busy morning of meetings, I grab a quick sandwich for lunch which I eat at my desk while I have another check through my emails.
I receive an email from somebody requesting more information on the commercial cleaning services we offer, which I pass on to the manager of that division.
Run Services is basically made up of number of divisions covering a whole spectrum of services from cleaning to security, design, construction and demolition.
2pm: I head back to Liverpool for a meeting at our new office on Rodney Street. Recently, we have worked on quite a few projects in Liverpool including the regeneration of Lime Street station and groundworks at Aintree University Hospital’s Bluebell House.
We want to establish a presence at further key locations in Liverpool in the near future. We believe the city is one of the most promising locations for community regeneration work, so it was a natural step for us to open an office in Liverpool.
4pm: My last stop of the day is in south Liverpool, to look at some land we are planning on buying to build a residential development. I meet our design services team there who work with builders, developers and contractors from the initial concept to the finished building. We discuss the potential of the land and propose some plans for the development which will go in front of the city council for approval.
6pm: I finish work after a hectic but productive day.
As I’m in Liverpool, I can avoid round two of the rush hour traffic, so that’s an added bonus.
