Airline appoints PR company to push capital flights

LIVERPOOL to London airline VLM has appointed Bell Pottinger North to handle its media relations activity across the North West.

This new regional appointment is an extension of the remit which has seen London-based sister agency Bell Pottinger Business & Brand already oversee a national communications campaign for the airline.

The move comes at a crucial time for VLM which in recent months has cut back its return service from Liverpool to London City from three to two flights a day.

When the route was launched in February 2004 it flew five return flights a day but strong competition from the upgraded West Coast railway line meant the carrier could not sustain the frequency.

VLM has also closed its Liverpool office but remains optimistic that the London service does have a future.

The airline hopes the appointment of Bell Pottinger will further increase its profile in the North West.
