LIVERPOOL’S new business support and inward investment agency has begun a drive to recruit top-calibre business people to its board.
The body, which has the working title of Liverpool PLC, will be launched early next year and is an amalgamation of three existing agencies, Liverpool Vision, Liverpool Land Development Company, and BusinessLiverpool.
City council leader Warren Bradley and chief executive Colin Hilton are determined the new organisation will have real clout and gravitas.
They have already hired current BNFL chief executive Michael Parker as chairman, and the appointment of a chief executive is believed to be just days away.
Applicants are now being sought to join the 11-strong board of Liverpool PLC, and Cllr Bradley said they were seeking candidates who could demonstrate “flair and entrepreneurial vigour”.
He said: “I want passionate and dynamic people on this board, because I am committed to a course of action that will see us do all we can to achieve a faster rate of economic growth. I have no doubt this company will help make the city more competitive, improve skills and enterprise, and make the most of Liverpool’s global brand to attract investment and jobs.”
Liverpool PLC is being established to lead on all aspects of economic development with a city-wide remit and will assist, promote, encourage, develop and secure the economic competitiveness of Liverpool in the UK and overseas.
It will initially employ about 70 staff and have initial revenue funding of £5m.
Mr Parker said: “The board will provide the strategic leadership of the new company, and I am looking to assemble a board that is committed to helping move Liverpool up to another level.
“Liverpool will not become a modern centre for international business unless we build on our success to date, and I am convinced that with the right people we can help place Liverpool on the world stage again.”
The non-executive directors will be expected to provide strategic leadership alongside the chairman, chief executive and management team.
