TESCO chief executive Sir Terry Leahy leads a list of “business champions” who will sit on the board of Liverpool’s new economic development agency, Liverpool Vision.
And all of the six will take on their roles for no pay – following the lead of chairman Mike Parker, who waived his own £50,000 remuneration package.
More than 60 business people expressed an interest for one of the six posts on the board of the city’s main re- generation organisation, formed from the merger of Liverpool Land Development Company, BusinessLiverpool and the former Liverpool Vision.
Liverpool-born Sir Terry will be joined by David Bundred, chairman, Business Angel Investments, John Kelly, senior executive, KPMG, Jeanette Kehoe-Perk- inson, MD, Just for People, Tony Wilson, senior partner, Hill Dickinson and Dougal Paver, managing director of PR firm Paver Smith.
They will join chairman Mike Parker, English Part- nership director Paul Spoon- er, Northwest Development Agency chief executive Steve Broomhead, Liverpool City Council leader Warren Brad- ley, former council leader Cllr Mike Storey and Labour group leader Cllr Joe Ander- son. Mr Parker said it had been a long and rigorous selection process which had resulted in a board of high-quality.
He said: “There was an excellent response and a range of strong candidates. I want to thank all those who were interested in joining.
“I am convinced that we now have six outstanding representatives from the private sector. All of these people are Liverpool people who care about their city.
“They are smart, qualified and committed with successful track records and they are already firm advocates for Liverpool, demonstrating to me that they mean business.”
Mr Parker himself is chief executive of BNFL and was previously the top man at US corporate giant, Dow Chemicals.
The board’s next job will be to work with chief executive Jim Gill to decide the strat- egic direction and implem- ent the business plan.
Warren Bradley said: “The challenge for Liverpool Vision is to help the city’s economy grow at a faster and more sustained rate.”
