Town chief given key role in city’s festive retail plans

LIVERPOOL Business Improvement District (BID) has appointed a temporary replacement for outgoing chief executive Rita Waters.

St Helens’ town centre manager Ged Gibbons has been seconded for three months until a permanent chief executive can be recruited.

He has already spent this year on secondment at Liverpool Culture Company, where he has worked on events including La Machine, Tall Ships and Mathew Street Music Festival. He has looked after St Helens for six years.

Mr Gibbons has now been given the task of heading the BID team during the key period of the year for the city centre.

He said: “The run-up to Christmas is the most important six weeks of the year for retailers and it is also the end of Liverpool ‘08.

“It is up to us to maximise all the business opportunities.”
