Only admin staff kept on at glass firm

MOST of the 300 people employed by the collapsed Greenberg Glass Emergency have lost their jobs, administrators say.

The firm is part of the Liverpool-based Greenberg Glass Group although its main base is in Liverpool.

The group’s other division, Greenberg Glass Contracts, was put into administration two weeks ago.

David Whitehouse and Philip Duffy, partners at MCR Corporate Restructuring, say they are reviewing the financial position of Greenberg Glass Emergency with a view to selling it as a going concern.

It provides emergency replacement glass for many of the most famous names in British retailing and controls about 70% of the national market.

But due to cash difficulties in the last few weeks the company was insolvent as it couldn’t pay its debts as and when they were due.

Weekly salaries were due to be paid to staff at the beginning of last week, but there wasn’t enough money.

Mr Whitehouse says: “Due to the nature of the emergency glazing business time is of the essence.

“We were unable to source raw material, including glass, in the short term, due to the lead-time of delivery.

“Therefore we have not been able to trade the business in administration.

“So unfortunately we have had to make redundancies across the company.

“We have only retained a number of administrative staff to assist us in our duties in realising assets and collecting the book debts at the freehold premises in Huddersfield.”
