KIRKBY-BASED civil engineering company, King Construction, has taken on 11 new apprentices to support the company’s continued growth.
The 16-18-year- olds, all from the Knowsley area, will begin three-year NVQ apprentice programmes in various disciplines of highway construction.
King has taken on the new recruits in association with Knowsley Council, who will part-fund the youngsters’ training during NVQ phases 1 and 2, while the company will fund the remainder of training for NVQ Level 3.
The firm has grown steadily year on year during the past six years, and enjoys repeat business relationships and framework agreements with several local authorities and utility companies, specialising in highway and road upgrade and construction.
Managing director Mark Doyle said: “Real apprentice schemes that deliver full three-year training programmes for trades are increasingly hard to find in our industry.
“As a former apprentice myself, I recognise the importance of providing young people with these opportunities.”
KNOWSLEY Council has successfully completed its search for 100 apprentices after launching its Knowsley Apprentice scheme in September.
