JLT to supply rugged PCs for birdstrike plane technology

PORTABLE computer firm JLT has won a contract worth £200,000 from airport bird dispersal specialist Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems.

The Runcorn firm will supply about 100 of its rugged tablet PCs a year to run Scarecrow’s Ultima software, which is a bio-acoustic distress call and compliant data logging system.

Scarecrow supplies airports around the world with its software, and so will be required to work in extreme weather conditions.

Bird strikes are a big worry for planes during landing and taking off. The US Airways Airbus that carried out an emergency landing in New York’s Hudson River did so after hitting a flock of geese, moments after take-off.

JLT has been developing rugged PCs that are used in a range of sectors, including military, construction, forestry and mining, that demand the highest levels of reliability and ruggedness.
