Liverpool company’s overseas fishing expedition finds new orders for rods abroad
A FISHING rod manufacturer is poised for new growth after hooking new overseas deals.
Harrison Advanced Rods, based at Brunswick Business Park, in Liverpool, was set up by Dr Steve Harrison, in 1989, as “a hobby which got out of control”.
Now the company produces 15,000 fishing rods a year.
The company recently moved into new markets in Poland, Croatia, Greece and the USA with support from UK Trade and Investment’s Passport to Export programme.
Dr Harrison is confident exports will grow still further thanks to the weak pound, and says that growth will in turn help make up for any sales dip in the UK.
He said: “December, 2008, was our best ever December and this was mainly as a result of increased exports.
“We are better positioned to take the domestic dip because we have established new markets overseas.
“Being an exporter means, no matter how depressed the home market, there is demand.”
