Mock tribunal a vital aid

SETTLING disputes in an industrial tribunal can be a costly and time-consuming nightmare for employers.

Most firms would agree that tribunals are expensive and use up a lot of management time in both preparing and defending.

Now the Liverpool Daily Post is teaming up with training provider Weightman Associates to stage a day-long event that aims to help employers maximise their chances of winning a tribunal.

The Mock Industrial Tribunal takes place at Aintree Racecourse on April 30 and will give those attending the opportunity to watch an authentic mock-up of a tribunal hearing featuring up-to-the-minute case law.

The day will also include presentation on procedural rules in Employment Tribunals, describing the steps which an employer must go through between the date of receipt of the ET 1 form, up to and including the formalities which apply to the hearing.

Tony Weightman, of Weightman Associates, said: “This is an event that is as close to the real thing as it gets.

“ It involves solicitors who regularly appear at Employment Tribunals. The case study is based on real life. This event gives participants the opportunity to observe a tribunal in action and gain an insight into why certain approaches occur.

“It also allows the participants to ask questions of the witnesses during the event. This does not happen at a real event, but it creates participation and enhances understanding and learning.”

“It is an extremely practical and useful event. Participants leave the event feeling more confident in being able to handle this situation. More importantly they will know the steps to take to ensure they do not need to appear at such an event.”

THE event cost £175+VAT per person and a booking form can be downloaded from www.ldp business.co.uk/tribunal
